Pink Callistemon

Bottle brushes are members of the genus Callistemon and belong to the family Myrtaceae. They are closely related to paperbark melaleucas, which also have 'bottlebrush' shaped flower spikes. It is difficult to tell to which genus some species belong. Botanists are currently closely studying these plants to determine how they are best classified. There are 34 species currently called Callistemon.

I don't know all that stuff I just call it a Pink Callistemon/Bottle Brush.

Passion-fruit Flower

Passion-fruit Flower Macro. Either an Alien with hands or some freaky ride at the carnival. Hmmm or you decide!

Bracken Fern

Dragonfly

This dragonfly only stood still long enough for me to take this photo and then he was gone.

Southern Brown Bandicoot

Went for a walk this afternoon at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Cranbourne, came across this little guy in my travels a Southern Brown Bandicoot. Lovely little nocturnal animals normally pretty shy but I think there use to the walkers, I suspect.

Good News

Good News, today I won a couple of prizes at the Pakenham Show 2010. In fact I won three Firsts and three Seconds and a Highly Commended. I'm very happy about that because at the Berwick show, my Hobart Sunrise photo was pipped at the post as Best in Show. But this time the same photo got "Best Exhibit Photography". But not only that my Flora entry which got a second at Berwick Show also got a First and a Special Award "Best Print Open Large Prints 2010" My other First is a Waterscape which I call Waterfall #2.

Rodeo Horse

In this image I want you to feel the speed, power and movement.

Pumpkin Flower

I've been a bit slack this month so I thought I'd better do something.

Out in the veggie patch, I noticed this pumpkin flower just peeking out from under the foliage, so I thought I'd grab this quick image.

I used F/4.5 for maximum depth of field and 1/640s, ISO 100.

Cape Liptrap Lighthouse

Cape Liptrap Lighthouse Lookout.

The wind was quite strong at this location and a tripod would have been very handy.

F/8, 1/200s, ISO 100.

Sandy Point

Shallow Inlet at Sandy Point is a beautiful place to be.

I like this shot for two reasons, firstly because it represents the primary colours, RGB and secondly the various layers in the background add a terrific sense of scale and depth to the image.

F/8. 1/800s, ISO 100.

Waratah Bay Sunrise

Waratah Bay Sunrise, early start for this one but well worth the effort.

F/22, 1/13s, ISO 100, Tripod
